The joy of a good cycle path. It is quicker to cycle into town, especially at Rush Hour. (Donnington Bridge)

Bikes outside the Radcliffe Camera. People used to picnic on the lawn outside this great library. But, it became too noisy for the students. Therefore black railings were put up; these railings have become an unofficial bike rack.

This is fun. a local Oxford cyclo cross.

It is fascinating to see the diversity of people who ride around town on bikes. I took these photos over a period of three years. Initially, I was using a compact camera. I now have a Canon 500D with faster shutter speed.

*psst* the river Thames doesn’t run through Oxford. The Isis, on the other hand…

Anent Oxford cycling–the pictures of ladies cycling in skirts and dons cycling in their gowns–how to they keep the fabric from getting caught in the spokes of the back wheels?

I love this collection of cycling photos. They really show the diversity of cycling in Oxford. I loved the detail of the red flower and its explanation.

Brilliant pictures. If only all towns were like Oxford, sadly, they aren’t.
If there were more bikes on the road, traffic would be more aware of us cyclists, but untill politicians want to make towns and cities cycling safe, people will stay in their cars.

Errr looking at the bikes… the ladies in Oxford are hot!

The lane you call Catte Street is really called Brasenose Lane. Catte Street is on the other side of the Radcliffe Camera.

Car drivers in Oxford must be very considerate towards cyclists judging by the number of cyclists not wearing crash helmets!

Its so good to see so many different types of people enjoying cycling in Oxford. The ones in the gowns made me laugh. Great pics.

I spent approx 25 years fighting bike crime in Oxford and having retired from the Thames Valley Police, I am now enjoying my retirement on the Isle of Wight.I know John Woodburn and Ken Lansbury well and the article on age related cycling is excellent. The photo’s are also excellent and I would certainly recommended this site

Brilliant pictures, it’s made me very wistful. I used to live in Oxford, and loved it but was too scared to cycle! Ironically, I now live and cycle around central London which clearly has many more obstacles to negotiate!

Oxford is a fabulous city, and I’m so please to see so many enjoying it by bike!

    Hi,

Can you please tell me whether there are any kids cycling clubs in Oxford (same as football clubs and the like)?

    Many thanks

  20. Cyclox - Local Cycling Campaign | Cycling UK - August 19, 2008

[...] Cyclox is a local cycling campaign for Oxford, probably similar to many local cycling campaigns. As a general rule I don’t join any political parties or pressure groups, but, decided to join Cyclox for a few reasons. There leaflet has many good common sense ways to improve cycling in Oxford – better facilities, safer roads, lobbying for better standards of driving, and also trying to improve the image of cyclists by promoting safe cycling techniques. You feel that their goals are quite achievable and taking part might make a real improvement to cycling in Oxford – something I enjoy a lot. (see pics of Oxford cycling) [...]
