If the club managed to enter a team hiring a van became economical. It wasn’t unusual to ride to a venue like Lancaster (from Manchester up the A6 – it wasn’t all that busy) stay in a b&b & ride on the Saturday & the Sunday. If I was too tired to ride home I’d either ride part way say to Chorley & get the train the rest of the way.
