Bits of Accrington can be just as bad and dont even mention the Rossendale Gyratory and road to Haslingden! Thankfully miles and miles of other good cycling routes in East Lancs. Phew

Having said that, once the moors to High Bentham and beyond had been dealt with, there was a nice steady climb up the Lune Gorge – which was superb; the decent from Shap northward is worthwhile.

You can’t go more than a couple of miles without having steep hills to climb or decend, often on narrow roads, and I think it puts a lot of people off.

What a shame. They are missing out.
