I’ve got some Marathon Winter 35c that fit nicely on my fixed gear bike. They’ve paid for themselves in the last week or so with all the snow/ice we’ve had in Leicestershire.

This morning about half of my commute was on compacted snow/ice and some slushy main roads. The tyres worked great, with some slipping in the slush but the studs allow me to correct it before hitting the tarmac! I don’t know how some people do it with slick tyres…

If I had a mountain bike I would probably get studded tyres for that instead as off-roading in the snow looks like so much fun!

Snow an ice abound so not sure how I will manage to stay fit. Not to keen on the gym or turbo; guess I’ll have to learn to love them.

Tried riding in the tracks of moror vehicles, but with the same lack of success.
So, rather than risk a broken leg or hip, I am keeping off the stuff.
Maybe I’ll have to get an exercise bike. Just for such days.

The worst thing is your water bottle warms up so half-way into the ride you’re drinking water at ambient temperature. I’ll tell you I got home and collapsed onto the floor, leaving a big puddle of sweat before hauling myself into the shower for a long, cold shower – ignoring the current water restrictions!

I don’t envy folks riding in snow though, as at least my ride home wasn’t in slippery conditions.
