4Km Pursuit

The 4Km Pursuit

The 4Km pursuit is one of the blue rib band events of track cycling. It has been in the programme for many years. I will never forget the excitement of Chris Boardman winning Olympic gold in Barcelona in 1992. In those days a track gold was a bit of a rarity. A lot of credit was given to Chris Boardman’s lotus monocoque bike, though this underrated the importance of his athletic achievement.

Women’s 3Km Pursuit

It is rather a shame that women do a 3KM event rather than 4Km.  It’s rather like athletics giving women a 90 metre sprint rather than 100 metre sprint.

World Record for 4Km. 4 mins 14 seconds (not certain) - Chris Boardman  average speed = 56.4705882 kmph

World Record for 4Km team pursuit. 3:56.322 Great Britain March 26th 2008 average speed over 60 kmph

2008 Olympic 4Km Pursuit Title

Gold - Bradley Wiggins GB

Silver - Hayden Roulston NZ

Bronze - Steven Burke GB

Was great to see Wiggins take gold. Although I would have preferred to see an Australian win, for me a British gold is the next best thing.

Thanks!

Funnily enough I have had a light hearted bet with an Australian friend tha GB will get more golds than Australia this time. I doubt he has the same attitude a British gold is next best thing. :)

Just wondering, as you mention Boardman, what you thought of his Olympian choices in the Independent…

Hi there, does anyone know if there is a world record for 4km on an ergometer?

I’ve had 3 cracks at the distance in the last 10 days and got my time down to 4m 17s this morning. Now I’m sure there’s a bit more to this than meets the eye, but as that time is faster than the time Bradley Wiggins did to take gold in Beijing I was just wondering how i might find out if I am actually any good at this cycling thing?

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Damien :)

Sorry, I lie, my time was 23 thousandths of a second slower than Mr Wiggins, even so, pretty reasonable time i think? So if anyone can answer my question on the beforementioned blog I’d be very grateful.

Thanks

Damien :)
