The Polar AXN 700 is a real top of the range heart rate monitor for the professional athlete or very serious hobbyist. It is hard to think of anything else a heart rate monitor could do – apart from make you go faster and on a practical level GPS would be good. But, at £329 it is not for the feint hearted.

The Polar AXN measures various aspects of a training run from heart rate to heart-rate to altitude, outside-temperature and even the weather. All this data can then be downloaded using the software they provide to give you a detailed record of your training run – giving a good guide to calorie intake, performance and fitness.

Made of Titanium, the watch looks suitably impressive, but, it might not appeal to more delicate tastes. It can also be a little uncomfortable, especially if you have thin wrists.

If you’re not worried about outlaying £300 + and you are a bit of a stato and techno buff – this is definitely the watch for you.
