Cycle King in Oxford. Cheap and cheerful – Stack ‘em high sell ‘em cheap
Cycle King claim to be the country’s largest independent retailer with 27 stores across the UK. The main thing you notice on visiting Cycle King is:
- The distinctive bright colours (just think of McDonalds for bikes and you get the idea)
- Really Cheap prices
- Huge numbers of Bikes
- Nothing you would particularly want to ride away with
You can’t doubt the fact that Cycle King target the budget end of the market. Some of the bikes on sale are really cheap; you almost wonder how bikes could be made so cheaply (cheap labour in China probably plays a part)
If you’re looking for a solid middle of the range road bike or better, Cycle King is not the place for you. If you are looking for the cheapest possible bike and you don’t particularly mind quality, Cycle King is just the ticket.
I was bought a wheel from cycle king, I think it ended up costing about 20. It weighs a lot and the quality feels pretty low, but, I wanted a cheap wheel to replace a broken one.
Cycle King has an extensive range of children’s bikes, some of which come with special themes like Dennis the Menace.

OK, aftert buying 4 bikes and numerous extras I finally will not buy anything from Cycle King Oxford again. They are cheap and employ kids who do not know how to set up a bike. If you buy one be sure to set up the gears and brakes yourself. The extras are cheap and useless. Spend more and go somewhere where what you buy will last more than 3 months. In the end Cycle King costs you money it doesn’t save you money. Beware!
[...] are bikes on sale for less than 100. This will be from the likes of Cycle King, Amazon and Asda. As you can imagine you get what you pay for. It’s hard to maintain the bike [...]
I work in Halfords and it even stumps me how they can even produce a bike for 50 and it even has a tourney derailluer. From my expirence they are just like Halfords. At least Halfords is a national chain with far more stores so you may be lucky and find one where they no something about bikes but to be fair to them the one in Cambridge is alright the customer service I receved is okay and whazt you’d expect from a shop like that. In Cambridge Cycle King at least they know the bike from end to tow and al least can put the fork on a bike the correct way around.
