Oxford has recently switched off speed cameras (on the grounds that we can’t afford it or something pathetic like that). Maybe we should take a leaf out of Switzerland who fined someone £650,000 for speeding! None of this £30 and don’t do it again. A few of those speeding fines, and suddenly even the UK National debt wouldn’t look so bad…
It was calculated by a formula using – speed over limit * income. And it came up with this fine.
The best bit about this story is not the fine, but the excuse the driver gave for driving at 300 KPH in his new Mercedes Benz
“I think the speedo on the car, which is new, is faulty.” (link at Guardian)
At 300 Kph it took him half a kilometre to come to a stop.
Cycling Fine.
And I thought it was impressive to get a fine for cycling at 68mph down a hill.
> fine for cycling at 68mph down a hill.
Of course in the UK they couldn’t have done that (given a speeding fine), since speed limits apply to motor vehicles, not cycles. Of course there is “cycling furiously” (or whatever it is called) which could be used instead…
