That Time Of the Year

cycling

It’s that time of the year where the desire of riding a clean bike becomes slightly outweighed by lack of desire to clean off the mud.

I was riding through Islip last Tuesday and a fellow cyclist came behind and said ‘Hi Tejvan, that bike is too nice for winter…” He was right. I spent most of that right trying to forlornly avoid mud on the road. Suffice to say, my new Trek Madonne is now up in the loft. It was too painful to see the gleaming white paint covered in various shades of farmyards detris.

It’s the perennial problem at this time of the year, that all the nice quiet back roads seem to be equally favoured by farm vehicles who leave a very nice trail of mud (which can be lethal for slipping on)

After the excitement of the hill climb season, winter training at 17mph is quite a bit different. It seems a long time since I’ve spent 3-4 hours in the saddle, but, I’m trying to get some miles in before the weather gets cold and icey.

I will try and ride 700 miles in November, any speed will do.
