Student inventor Dominic Hargreaves has invented a foldup bike as small as a bike wheel. Labelled, the Contortionist, his prototype invention has been shortlisted for this year’s James Dyson Award for innovation.

- Review of Brompton Foldup bikes – This is a one off bike, which you might struggle to find. Brompton are the market leader in foldup bikes because they are by far the smallest to foldup. They can be twice or three times as expensive as other models, such as the Dahon and Ammaco – but they are really excellent.

The dimensions of the folded bike are: 585mm high x 565mm long x 270mm wide (23″ x 22.2″ x 10.6″).

With a little practice, the Bromtpon can be folded up in 10 – 20 seconds.
This design seems to have got an immense amount of publicity. Personally it would take a lot to convince me that a folding monoblade front fork is safe.
