Flavio Zappi in his cafe
Flavio Zappi has launched a new cycling club based from his cafe in Walton Street, Oxford. The club is open to all cyclists from triathletes to sportive riders and road racers. Flavio is also planning to be entering a team for riding in the Premier Calender Road series in 2010. He hopes to develop some of the young local riders who have great potential.

Cycling Cafe Culture
In Yorkshire I was brought up in a culture of cycling cafes. Every Sunday, we would ride out to cafes like Burnsall cafe and Gargrave Cafe. These were always packed with cyclists. At the Gargrave cafe, there were always cyclists during the week. Coming down south, there wasn’t the same cafe culture for cyclists. So it’s good to see Zappi’s cafe becoming a place for local cyclists to meet, after a long training ride or in the middle.
The cafe serves good coffee ( including decaffeinated varieties, for those who are training strictly.) and a wide variety of snacks, – check out the choco crunch.

Great to see Zappi’s cafe is going well. If you are looking for somewhere else down south you might want to look in on Giuseppe’s Gourmet which is at Nympsfield gliding club in the Cotswolds, he’s open all day from 8.30 til late and not only does he do the usual cafe menu but also makes the most delicious italian food if you fancy something more substantial. It’s got a large car park and while you have a breather you can watch the gliders come and go
