Recently, I took a few days off the bike to visit Italy. In Pisa, a friend, Ashrita went for two Guinness World Records. One of which was for the fastest 100m on stilts. We started early in the morning marking out a 100m course next to the leaning tower. His time was just under 20 seconds. Maybe not Usain Bolt, but, it’s pretty hard to balance on these spring stilts at that speed.

The second record is rather hard to describe. It involves holding onto your big toe with your thumb and then covering 100m in the fastest time.

If you try it, you will see how difficult it is. 100m would kill your quads! Ashrita is quite a character. He holds something like 115 records and has broken over 290 in the past two decades. He officially holds record for holding the most Guinness Records. He does it for the spirit of self-transcendence and for the joy he gets from doing it.

The Four Person Bicycle

This was great fun. Four people cycling and steering the vehicle around the town. Though the motorists and bus drivers got a bit fed up when we took a wrong turn and got stuck on some busy junction. I’m the one on the steering wheel.
