A Personal Best

  • Note to self, early morning races with jetlag are not great.

After getting back to UK on Thursday morning. I was still jetlagged on Friday. After a couple of hours sleep I was up early to do a 10 mile time trial in Cirencester on the fast U47 course.

The course is almost pancake flat and is a simple dual carriageway. My time was 20.09 just under 30mph average. It was a personal  best by a few seconds. But, rather than being pleased, I was thinking I should have gone under 20 minutes – such is our ambition!

Unfortunately, I got a cold later in the day, so had to dns for a Bath Road CC 31 mile hilly yesterday morning. Airplanes are bad for getting colds, it was either that or just doing an early morning 10 after 3 hours sleep.

Anyway it will be a few days rest so I will have time to fill in my tax forms and everything that got left during extended holiday. Joy!

“Airplanes are bad for getting colds”- it’s true. Based on my own experience and others’, it is easy to catch cold after a long flight. Usually the problem starts with itch throat. I believe it is due to the dry air, which slowly dries up our airway and reduces it’s immunity to virus. The body fatigue after sitting for long hours doesn’t help either. The solution? I use a mask to regulate the moisture level and go to sleep as quickly as possible.
