National Champs Preview

national

The Trek on the turbo. I use a special turbo training tyre, which I leave on a spare wheel.

Tues, used turbo for 3 minute interval session. Wed rest day. Today, maybe a three – four minute hill. Fri and Sat rest. Maybe short spin on Sat afternoon.

It’s probably been my best season for hill climbs. I’ve won 7 out of 9 races and I’ve beaten many of my personal best times by 10-15 seconds. In a four minute race, this is quite a lot. But, last year I was 32 seconds behind winner Dan Fleeman, so it’s a big margin to catch up.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to race. I just hope to be able to give it everything. In a National Championship, you just try to push yourself a little more than you usually do. After all there are catchers on the line, you want to give them something to do…

turbo

Squeezing the turbo into the conservatory, with fan it’s not too uncomfortable.

It could be very close for top three with perhaps 10 riders all within a realistic chance of a podium position. It will be good event on Sunday, closed roads and hopefully a good crowd to pull you up the last four minutes of the season.

Interested in your opinions on rollers compared with a turbo trainer. Just brought one for myself thinking it would give a more realistic/interesting training session.

Only disadvantage I can see is you don’t get such good resistance control/have to spend a lot of money to get magnetic resistance.

Both seem to be good at wearing tyres down though!
