So last Tuesday, I write a post – bad luck with punctures. Very humorously I got a puncture that very same evening. Less funny, is getting another three separate punctures over this weekend and splitting my rear tyre. That’s four punctures in less than a week – more than I’ve had all year!
I think I followed all my advice of trying not to get repeat punctures. In particular I was double checking to make sure no inner tube was stuck between rim and tyre.
The first puncture was at the end of a nice 70 mile training ride to Henley on Saturday. It occured on a lethal bike path, which is notorious for sharp objectives to give punctures.
Sunday I was planning for a 40 mile ride. But, after getting a second puncture and seeing the state of this almost brand new Continental Grand Prix 4000 tyre (above), I went home and was lucky not to get another puncture with tube squeezing out. I’ve ridden the Grand Prix 4000 quite a lot, and it’s usually lasted quite a long time.
In this case, I should have improvised some kind of liner to fit in between the inner tube and tyre.
Overall, I don’t find punctures that annoying (compared to being driven off road by crazy motorists, it’s a minor inconvenience…) Usually they are not that common, if you have a spare inner tube, it only takes 10-15 minutes to replace. However, after a 4th puncture in 5 days, I was starting to wonder….

10-15 mins is long enough to get very cold, though, isn’t it?
