Continental Gatorskin

Since I keep getting punctures, I can’t help think about best winter training tyres. After throwing away my split Continental 4000, I will be replacing it with a Continental Gatorskin tyre. I have  been pleased with the performance of this tyre since using it over three years. It’s puncture protection is pretty good, and there is also a very good feel to the ride. It doesn’t feel much different from riding a top road tyre.

Another good feature of the Gatorskin is that it feels like it has a good grip, which is essential for this time of the year when the roads are so wet and slimy.

Gatorskins are also quite easy to put on and off, especially if you get the slightly larger 25″

Out of interest I put a Armadillo 25″ on my other training bike rear wheel. The Armadillos feels tougher, heavier and more rigid than the Gatorskin. It has a greater durability but, I’ve usually stuck to putting that on the commuting bike as I felt the bike handling wasn’t quite as good as the Continental.

I would be interested in finding a better tyre to the Gatorskin. Someone recommended me a tyre as having better puncture protection but I can’t remember it.

I would definitely recommend getting a  Gatorskin over a Continental Sport.

I’d suggest Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase 25s or 28s. Inexpensive, tough as boots and last well, so great for winter riding.

Thanks. Whilst I appreciate you pith I really meant in terms of performance. I’ve only ever bought folding tyres so I have no experience of whether there is any difference in use.

apart from cost, one is a folding tyre.

is there any real difference other than cost between the folding and the non folding version of this or any other tyre that is available in both options?
    thanks
