Cycle Stands

Oxford

A top of the range cycle stands which doubles up as a planter. This is outside a pub on Iffley Road.

Crowded Cycle Stands

Unfortunately, many cycle stands in Oxford are crowded – at least the popular ones. One big problem is the number of abandoned bicycles.

I was really happy to travel to Blackwells coffee shop and to see the council had finally got round to labelling bikes as abandoned.

For the past six months this horrible pink cheap MTB has been nicely rusting away. Usually there is not space in the cycle stand so you have to put it somewhere else. This particular cycle stand has collected a nice array of abandoned and rusting bicycles. Nearly 50% of bikes in this cycle stand had been abandoned. Recently I saw the council and police removing bikes from the huge bike stands at the railway station. It is a good service and it will be easier to park after the abandoned bicycles are taken away for recycling.

Weak Cycle Stands

These are the cycle stands at work. Simple things to put the bike in, but nothing to lock the bike to. This encourages people to just lock the wheel to the bike (or place bike horizontally and take up 4 docking points at once.

Mudguards Bikes

Unfortunately our employer would never pay any money to get something better.

I can remember using my bike stand when I was at school but as I grew older I forgot all about them until seeing this post. Thanks for posting, may be searching ebay later tonight.

At my university there is always limited space to put my bike. Almost all of the stands are full of bikes that I never see move. Now that the weather is starting to get warmer, I assume more people will cycle in and make parking my bike impossible. I would love more/better bike parking everywhere.
