Sometimes readers send questions on cycling, I’m usually quite grateful for these as it makes a good blog post.

I can’t guarantee to answer but if it’s about cycling I’ll probably have a stab.
- I’m not a qualified coach – though like most cyclists that doesn’t stop me having opinions and ideas on training.
- I’m a failed bike mechanic but I can still tell you what you should do in theory, even if I can’t do it myself.
- I like most aspects of cycling from slow commuting to cycling up hills several times in a row.
So don’t expect Sheldon Brown standard replies, but occasionally I do say something useful.
I’m thinking of building up a bike for the hill climb season (I’m planning to enter the Nationals and want to do well at the local club events). Would you recommend fixed or geared and can you recommend any frames/wheels etc.? Any specific recommendation for Long Hill in Buxton?
Cheers
Andy
Sorry, no ideas on this really, apart from the obvious moisturising cream and sunblock, you probably have tried.
Hi, Tejvan! Good that you mention questions, since I forgot to ask this of you last time we met in NY.
After a hard training day, usually I get a really miserable “dryness” feeling on my face and eyes, along with being very tired. Winter or Summer.
I thought it could be dehydration and started taking more water and salt capsules, to no apparent avail. Anyway, it takes maybe 8 hours or to get better.
Hard swimming is the same, so I take it not to be irritation of the skin, but rather some result of effort.
Did you ever have this, or do you have any suggestion?
Congrats for efforts on keeping up so many nice things like this blog around the web.
