Pinnacle Neon Two Review

Pinnacle Neon Two

The Pinnacle Neon Two is an unflashy and practical hybrid which will appeal to those looking for a cheap but good quality hybrid.

Ride Quality

A very practical hybrid which is easy to ride around town. The aluminium frame and fork helps give both a low weight and low price. This gives a typical experience of riding aluminium frames. Quite low weight giving reasonable acceleration and not too much drag up hills. Not as comfortable as steel or carbon fibre, but not a big drawback for most people. It is easy to ride with relaxed riding position. The normal gears were surprisingly fast and easy to shift (Shimano Altus)

Another nice feature for town riding is the addition of disc brakes. They give a more powerful and reassuring braking power than ordinary lever brakes. They need a simple adjustment every now and then. – A simple turn of Allen key because they only wear down one side of the brake pads and you  need to adjust to keep same distance. But, this is easily managed, (even for the less mechanical minded)

Looks / Design

It is clean and  simple. It gives impression of exactly what the bike strives for – a good value practical commuter. It is nothing to dream over and aspire for, but then for a commuter bike left in bike racks around town, there are advantages of not looking too flash.

Limitations

The tyres Kenda Kwick could easily be improved. For ordinary commuting and light off-road riding, I would recommend tyres with better puncture protection.

Many commuters will need to add more extras onto bike like mudguards and pannier racks.

Conclusion

For a hybrid bike under £500, it offers really quite value. There aren’t many lightweight 24 geared bikes with disc brakes for this price. The brand Pinnacle is relatively unknown, but this helps get it cheaper. The brand is owned by Evans cycles so buying from Evans means you are missing out an intermediary company which helps bike to be cheaper.

It is quite utilitarian, but still an attractive looking bike. It is the kind of bike which is good to ride and will see many years of service.

If I was a Car?

A small Proton hatchback. No-one’s really heard of you, but it gets you around town no probs.

Who will this bike suit?

It will be great for someone looking for a best value hybrid bike under £500, and not worried about getting a flash brand name. For your money you get a lot of features
