It’s funny that coming off the bike you can feel so stiff it’s hard working walking up and down stairs. But, when you get on the bike and start pedalling you can soon forget there was anything ever wrong. Then when you get back, it’s still hard work walking up and down the stairs.
There have also been times when I felt really tired and just feel like a kip, but I force myself on to the bike and it feels great, energy returns.
Recently in New York, I spent quite a bit of time on my feet and walking around – it was really hard work. It felt easier to cycle 100 miles in four hours rather than walk slowly for two hours. It just shows the body is very adaptable, it’s good at what you get used to. But, what you don’t do feels difficult.
I’m really bad at walking. it just feels so slow and hard work, you can’t even coast down the hill. I need a bike just to cycle 0.5 mile to the shop. I guess it’s better than needing a car to drive 0.5 miles to the shops.
