At the weekend, I was racing on both Saturday and Sunday
- Saturday 10 miles 21:12 average speed 28.5mph 3rd / 70
- Sunday 25 miles 56:57. average speed 26.2 mph (6th /60)
Saturday felt good. On Sunday I was quite a bit slower probably because:
- Tiredness from previous day
- Body not as responsive early in morning
- Less traffic in morning.
It is hard doing 2 races in 2 days. Although a 10 mile time trial is quite short; I just seemed to lack the same intensity on the next morning. I think this was as much mental tiredness as physical tiredness. It requires a real determination to race at your peak form. There was a time in the 25 mile time trial when I felt a little demoralised I was racing up hill, into the wind and my speed dropped to 20mph. Nevertheless, I was happy with the weekend racing, especially the Saturday race. It was quite windy and the return leg was very fast, I was averaging over 30mph for 10 minutes, which is a great feeling.
The important thing is not to give too much importance to a disappointing result. I shall focus on the 10 time and forget the 25 time.

Thanks for dropping by John. That’s the great thing about cycling, you can enjoy it at all levels.
I think you must have a laugh when you read my performance figures – but the main thing is that we both enjoy our very different styles of cycling. Your results are quite inspiring all the same!
