SKS Product Review

Recently, I received a few products from SKS, a German company specialising in high quality bicycle accessories.

The product which impressed me most was the SKS Race blades, which I have on my road bike. They are really good and I have been making good use on my winter training.  You can read a review here: SKS Mudguards. Definitely, one of best mudguards for road bike.

In addition, to these mudguards I received some other products, which over past two months I have been using and reviewing.

Diago Streamlined Pump

Looks good and smooth. Works very efficiently. I’ve had problems with mini pumps breaking down after several months use. This seems sturdier than other models. When pumping up tyres, there is a very smooth connection within pump action. I’ve only used for a couple of months, but it retains exactly same strength and rigidity, that not all mini-pumps have. Not the shortest mini-pump, you may have issues with small saddle bags, but one of the sturdier makes.

SKS Multi Tool

multi-tool

A simple 8 function multi-tool. Has all main allen keys for emergencies. Useful for having around tool shed and in back of pocket. Personally, for long rides, I would choose a multi-tool with a chain tool. But, if you want just a simple multi-tool this is good.

SKS bottle Cage

SKS bottle Cages (sliding one on right – seat tube)

The standard bottle cage is very sturdy, whilst still quite light. It keeps the bottle pretty firm in position, and gives impression of being very durable and long lasting. It’s a solid design, not the most attractive or cool bottle cage, but does the job, which is what you want.

SKS Sliding Bottle Cage

This bottle cage enables bottles to be slid in the side, rather than just from top like most standard bottle cages. It may well have a use for certain positions and certain riders, but I didn’t see an advantage of sliding bottle entry, and prefer the more standard bottle cage

Velo42 Urban with stays

This is a stronger and more resilient mudguard to the Race Blades. Unlike the race blades, they do require a more permanent installation. You need mudguard eyes and are suited to a touring / winter touring bike. They are a bit heavier than race blades, but offer more extensive coverage and are sturdier.

I really wanted to fit to my commuting bike, but I had a problem with the mudguard eye and have been unable to. I should say this is not a problem of product, but my bike. I’m interested in SKS’ latest Raceblade long, which hopes to overcome this.
