Some christmas gifts good for a cyclist. It’s that time of the year when I start asking people what they would like for Christmas, most of my family say ‘don’t know’ and struggle to think of something. But, I can always have a Christmas list, as long as excuses for avoiding a winter turbo training session.
Dear Santa,
What I would Really like for Christmas
- A water bottle, that protects you from drinking horse manure. When I go out riding, my bottle gets splashed with mud, you kind of wipe the muck off with your gloves, but it’s still pretty unhygienic.
- Lightweight Ventoux Wheels. A pair of wheels weighing 950 grams. Only £2,600.
- Hotpads, for really warm hands and feet over winter. Hotpads
- SKS Long Blades. I’m a big fan of SKS clip on road mudguards, the Long Race blades offer extra protection and length. Just come out. Read review of SKS race blades
- Garmin Edge 500. If Santa Claus had a lot of money. GPS, heart rate, power meter compatible and cyclo computer all in one. Garmin Edge 500
- Rear LED lights. I am a big fan of getting a good set of LED lights. Quite often LED lights are weak and feeble. But, this particular model from Cateye, Cateye TL LD610 Rear Light , is one of the best around. It has 5 bright LEDs and is more visible than standard lights - Cateye Rear LED lights I also like very much the Knog boomer rear light, I tried this year.
- Base layers – A cyclist will always be able to use baselayers. In winter it can be necessary to wear several at once. This is an example of a long sleeved base layer
- Multi Function Tool. – Even though I have one multi tool already, I would be quite happy to get a second. One multitool can be left in the garage, the other one can be permanently kept in the saddle bag. Make sure you get a multi-tool with chain tool. (It is worth keeping this tool in a plastic bag, otherwise it can easily rust, if kept in a saddle bag. An 18 piece multitool.
- Sunglasses – Even if you have one pair already, sunglasses are the kind of thing that you can easily lose. Therefore, it is good to have a spare pair. Some glasses offer different alternative shades of light. In winter it is good to have glasses with a yellow tint. This can actually improve visibility in the dark winter months. – Sunglasses at Wiggle
- DVDs and Books – For the real cycling enthusiast a cold winter night, leaves little room for cycling; so the next best alternative is to watch old cycle races or read books. Obree Way - would be my choice for this year
- A charge sink single speed
