Somewhat counter intuitive, nevertheless it still has it’s adherents. – The Sideways bike

Electronic gears.

Once touted as the next big thing, electronic gears have always struggled to catch on despite, frequent attempts by manufacturers.

The one piece aero hat / suit.

Well, it looks pretty cool, but, the average commuter couldn’t quite see the point for some reason.


Cinneli Bars. There was a time when procylists were allowed to use these pseudo time trial bars, but, not any longer. The UCI specialise in preventing the development of technology not deemed to be ‘in keeping with the spirit of the sport.

The Monocoque frame.

Remember this bike, it became all the rage in the 80s and 90s until the UCI banned them.

The Tuck.

Graeme Obree almost reinvented the wheel with this innovative tuck position which helped him to break the world hour record. It was based on the position of a skier. It later got banned.
