The Constant Motion
Cycling has a constant rhythm. If you maintain a constant cadence, cycling develops a mantric quality of repeating the constant pedalling and cycles. (pedalling technique)
Scenary.
Cycling is one of the best ways to appreciate the scenary and countryside of Britain. In a car, the visual feel is diminished by the speed you travel and the glass window. When cycling you can go at whatever pace you want to appreciate the scenary.
Cycling up Hills.
I love cycling up hills (as long as I’m fit). Especially, I love long hills which aren’t too steep. But, even really steep hills create a great challenge. cycling up hills
Cycling Down Hills.
I’m not keen on sharp descents where you have to go through half a brake block to negotiate the hairpin bends. But, on many long sweeping descents you can just get into the flow and enjoy the speed. (tips for fast cornering)
Racing.
Racing is hard work and it’s difficult to keep trying to ride faster. But, I like the challenge of trying to go faster
The feeling of riding as hard as you can.
Money and Time.
Cycling into work save time and money. I’m perhaps fortunate to live in Oxford which has several advantages for cycling, (as well as disadvantages). But, on any journey the bike will be
- Quicker than driving
- Much easier to park
- Much cheaper to run.
- Cost per mile cycling
Aesthetic
Since starting this cycling blog I have grown to appreciate the aesthetic appeal of good quality bikes. I have probably become a bike snob. A good bike can combine simplicity and elegance. It has encouraged me to keep all my bikes clean.
Overtaking People
It doesn’t matter she is 65 years old and riding a 30 year old 21lbs bike, my ego gets joy from cycling past anyone, even if I’m just cycling to work.
