On Friday, the heavens opened in a training ride 20 minutes from home. I was surprised:
- How wet I got (despite a seemingly flimsy, rain jacket)
- How cold mid June can be in England
Forgive me for stating the obvious that you get wet from rain, but, this year I seem to have dodged the rain and I’d forgotten what it was like to get caught in a really heavy downpour. I really admire people who cycle in places like Ireland and the Lake District where it rains 50% of the time.
I was supposed to do a 50 mile time trial on Sunday morning, but the weather forecast looked dire. The idea of riding 50 miles in the pouring rain at 7 degrees made me wimp out and not start. As it happened the race was cancelled anyway because of water logged roads, but, it actually turned out a nice day – showing how unreliable weather forecasts can be.
Despite rain, it wasn’t a bad weeks training.
4 * 35 mile rides and 1 * 20 mile rides including a few hill intervals and one 10 mile TT.
