I stumbled across a very interesting site, by Nick Hand – Slow Coast. Nick documents his cycle ride around the coast of the British Isles. Last year, he cycled around England, Wales and Scotland. This year he is in Ireland.
I like the podcasts and interviews with local artisans he meets on the way. See: Sideslides. It really gives the feel of a proper touring cycle ride. It’s not just about the cycling, but also finding time to meet people along the way. Very different to the kind of cycling I do, which is generally to around in circles as quickly as possible.
Seems a great way to spend a summer. On his blog, Nick documents the highs and lows of cycle touring. But, it seems the highs such as unexpected hospitality and generosity by strangers far outweigh the downs of speeding drivers and potholes. – A Very inspiring and positive account of cycle touring. Also brings back good memories from my own cycle touring in Ireland.
Nick is also raising money for the Parkinson Disease Society, you can learn how to donate here:
