I love bus lanes. They are a great place to cycle. It’s just about the only time you get a really solid gap between you and cars. Also the bus lane is so narrow buses can’t come past. It’s strange but bus lanes are usually much better than cycle lanes. And as this picture shows you can beat the traffic to boot.
More typical cycle lanes. Great shock as the taxi stops behind the advanced cycle box. In Oxford, taxis and other vehicles invariable ignore these markings.
On the way to work.
Today the first snow has fallen in Oxford, but I’m still getting around to posting images from Autumn.
Nice shot. Even if I do say so myself.

It was a murky morning.

Having been hit whilst in a cycle lane twice – I think I should post a warning!
Firstly, a disclaimer, the cycle lane I am talking about is in Lewisham SE London – to those not in the know – to live in Lewisham you need to be a fully paid up member of the “God forgot to give me brains” brigade (why else would you choose to live in such a cruddy place) – so all bike lanes are not the same probably.
When going down a bis lane – watch out for left hand turns – it seems that drivers are incapable of using their left hand wing mirror and indicators when driving down a road with a bus lane on the left – I have side smacked two cars turning left with no warning and did not haver the time to stop.
I have seen two buses in my time being hit in the same fashion (though the results to the car were different – if a driver can’t see a bus I don’t think me on my bike are going to have a better chance.
So this is a long winded way of saying – when going down a bus lane, take real care when you see a left turn up ahead – I know I do and it has saved me a 50 or more further accidents. Either that or don’t cycle through Lewisham.
thanks for tip Jon
