Alex Dowsett 46.58

Alex DowsettAlex Dowsett in North Hamps 25 mile TT – 46.58. I was third a small 6 minutes back.

Yesterday was last time trial of the season (apart from hill climbs). It was quite a good day on the lumpy Bentley course. You never know what kind of weather you’re going to get in September, but yesterday was pretty good apart from a fairly gentle breeze.

I was off number 60, in a field of 130. I haven’t ridden many 25s this year and was quite pleased to get a new all time pb of 52.49. It means this year has been good, with new pb’s at 10,25,50 and 100 miles.

My pride in doing a personal best and a 52 minute ride, was only slightly muted by the European Under 23 time trial champion (Alex Dowsett Trek Livestrong) setting a new course record of 46.58 nearly 6 minutes faster. This kind of time could have been a competition record on the fastest course in the UK. I think Alex would have done very well in the BTTC, if he hadn’t been riding the Tour de L’Avenir in France.

Since Alex is a potential future world champion and top Tour de France rider, I thought it would be good to get a few pics, which might make me a fortune in the future. It was actually quite difficult given that I had a cheap compact with slow shutter speed, and the obvious speed Alex was cycling at. Most came out a bit of a blur. The one at the top was the best. I estimate Alex was doing over 35 mph here.

So I’ve had the chance to ride against some of the best time triallist in the world in recent weeks, it’s definitely inspiring to see people be able to cycle so fast.

Well done on your PB ! There’s always someone to spoil it though isn’t there….

Its time the record went. Will be Dowsett or MH by the look of it…
