Our ‘National’ cycling weekly magazine does its best to be professional about the forthcoming National 10 Mile Championship.
National 10
Where? Liphook, Hampshire
When? May 24-25
Top spot for spectators: The men’s and women’s events are being run simultaneously on the A3, with the men’s event going south and the women’s event going north. Sounds pretty scary- lets hope the marshals are on the case this year, because sometimes you can’t ell who’s what under those skinsuits! So if there are no men’s women’s event collisions, we can at least be guaranteed some spectacularly bad bike handling at both turns, as peope unused to going round corners slow to walking pace, take appauling ‘racing’ lines and get hooted and sworn at by irate motorists who don’t understand why the dual carriageway is covered in cyclists.
Best for…Juggernauts or military convoys if you’re luckySomething for the weekend? Petersfield was home to the world’s first collection of antique teddy bears until 2006- it closed when the locals couldn’t bear it any longer – so go for a full english in the Little Chef if you get bored with watching old men in silly hats riding past at minute intervals.
Good to know the quality journalism you can expect for £3.75.
I will be entering this year’s National 10; at least it’s good to know I can visit the antique Teddy Bears museum, when I’ve finished falling off at all the roundabouts :( think I’ll give Little Chef a miss though.
Pretty apauling (sic) spelling in that article…
