Police Stop Cycling on Safety Grounds

Cheshire police have stopped their own policemen riding bikes on the grounds of health and safety. The decision follows an unfortunate accident in which a police officer was killed on duty whilst cycling.

However, the decision to stop policemen using bikes has been widely criticised as excessive concerns over health and safety.

Other police forces such as in Oxford, have found that ‘bobbies on a bike’ is an excellent way of reducing crime and reassuring the public with a visible presence.

The Cheshire police force is requiring all policemen to go on an advanced cycling proficiency course, before being allowed to cycle.
