The Traditional British Club Run

I came across this post at Dave Moulton’s Bike Blog.- The British Club Run

It struck a chord because this is how I began cycling 15 years ago – with Otley CC. We would spend all day cycling up the Yorkshire Dales, often with 2 or 3 tea stops. – The pace would be very slow 13-16 mph, but very civillised. Often we would set off at 9am and get back at 4pm, having done 100 miles

Such a shame these traditional  club runs are more difficult due to the ever increasing traffic volumes.

It is also sad, people don’t seem to have the time to give a whole day to cycling, people always seem so pressured for time.

By the way I would happily swap my 18 speed lightweight bike for a fixed speed, just to be able to ride on quiet roads like in the 1950s. – The golden age of cycling !

    Bloody hell!!
I can’t believe it’s the Worcester St. Johns club – I used to ride with them, and the coolest possible bike was a Dave Moulton. 25 years later I live in New York, and the coolest possible bike is, a Dave Moulton.
I remember trying to catch Phil Bayton’s wheel when he rode through town, and riding out to Broadway. Nice to see cycling catching on here in the US at last – we have a new store on my block that only sells Keirin bikes and frames.

    Thanks for the bikes, Dave
