City Of Joy from daniel fiantok on Vimeo.
This is a fascinating video because:
- It’s great to see so many people on bicycles
- Why does this look like some kind of toy model, with little lego figures cycling around?
A note on critical mass bike rides
Critical mass bike rides seem a thing of the past. Though this seems quite a well-behaved critical mass bike ride, stopping at traffic lights e.t.c. (Critical mass bike rides)
My understanding is that there are various ways to achieve the effect which doesn’t so much alter the perspective as artificially blur the foreground and background, giving the impression of a very shallow depth of field, as you would get with a close-up of miniatures.

At its most basic you just blur the top and bottom of the photo/video, but even that can be surprisingly effective depending on the scene.
(apologies for pedantry I’m sure Alex is aware of this, but I wanted to provide more detail for anyone interested).
Nice video btw.
It would be nice if critical mass was so popular here!
The lego toys effect is a tilt/shift lens that alters perspective – very fashionable at the mo.
