Congestion on the Roads

Bus Congestion

Bus Congestion

I was cycling to work when I got nicely stuck behind a log jam of buses and lorries. It took ages to resolve so I had time to get my camera out

bus-congestionJust to the left, there is a street called Queens Street. It is open to buses but closed to cyclists (from 10pm-6pm)

Because this street is closed to bikes it requires a large detour to go from East to West.

Recently, the Oxford police had a campaign catching people cycling in pedestrian areas and fining them £30. They caught 95 alot and raised over £2,300 in 3 hours.

Cornmarket a pedestrian area. No place for cycling.

Cornmarket (pictured above) is a pedestrian area and quiet busy. Cyclists can be a nuisance value.I wouldn’t cycle here, even if it wasn’t prohibited.

The density of pedestrians means cycling is not practical or common sense. So if rules are enforced it seems fair enough. But, with Queens Street I’m not sure why it should be open to buses but closed to cyclists.
