Cycling Training Schedule 2008

Targets

  • Keep riding throughout the year.
  • Race every fortnight
  • National Championships: 10 Miles, 25 Miles and National Hill Climb
  • Train 4-5 times a week from January 1st onwards.

January and February

Base Training. Some rides at 18mph upto 80% HR

March

  • start moderate time trial interval sessions. Effort level similar or just above race level. For 5 minutes at a time.
  • Begin racing with some hilly time trials

April

  • First 10 mile Time Trials.
  • Increase intensity of interval training.

May

  • 10 Mile National Championship

June and July

  • Keep Racing and Training to peak in June for 25 miles
  • After National 25 mile TT championship do some long hillier rides for fun.

August

  • Slight decrease in intensity. I usually take a holiday in late August.

September

Start hill climb interval training session in earnest

October

  • Hill Climb Races
  • Hill Climb Training. Low mileage high intensity. Typicall 3 interval sessions a week, but, as hard as the body can cope with
  • Taper for National championship end of October
